'The Rainbow Goblins'

A Diorama Project... in 1st grade???

Man, times sure have changed since my elementary school youth. my curriculum consisted of coloring, napping and enjoying recess. I don't think i could even pronounce 'di-o-ram-a' (way too many syllables. Obviously, Ms. Tinc is not educating from the same book as my teacher for Xaine truly does have a diorama project. The task at hand is to choose a story, write a book report and then decorate all 5 sides of a shoe box with scenes of the characters and show where/when the story takes place.

My boy didn't have to think twice on the book he would use. It had to be his FAVORITE 'The Rainbow Goblins'. the book tells of seven goblins, each one a different colour of the rainbow. They love the taste of colour and have eaten all the rainbows, yet one valley remains where rainbows are still born. The story is of their journey to find the 'Valley of the Rainbow' and eat the last of the rainbows. When they finally reach the valley and attempt to lasso a rising rainbow the flowers flood them with colour, drowning them, out of which a beautiful new world is born. (Yep sounds like a story my boy would love. Thanks Auntie Pasto)

So off to work HE went (we may have had some concept discussions, but Xaine did ALL the work). Utilizing several artistic techniques he created: a Paper Mache cave, Tin Foil lake, Confetti birds/butterflies and even made it so the rainbow could rise...

Hours of painting, pasting and creative juices flowing his project was complete. His face reflected overwhelming personal pride as he carried his work of art through the halls to be presented to his teacher.

On display in the classroom for nearly a month his diorama is once again home, accompanied by a 100% score sheet. Full points on a job well done...
